Jonathan “Sugar Joe” Friend
by
Patrick T. Smith
and
Patty (Friend) Thompson

Jonathan Friend was the second child of Andrew Coleman Friend and Sarah Nancy Harden. Jonathan was the great grandson of “Old” John Friend, founder of Friendsville, MD. Jonathan was born in Ohio in 1820 and would move back to Allegany (Garrett) County with his parents sometime before 1830. Jonathan married Lydia Collins on March 11, 1843 and with their children lived in and around on a plot of land own as Grim’s Point located Southwest of present Friendsville, MD.
This book is the promised continuation of Pat Smith and Patty (Friend) Thompson’s Friend Family Series of Garrett County, MD. This reference book is comprised of over 584 pages, fully indexed and presented in an outline format. The authors openly welcome and encourage any additions and/or corrections to this information. The authors can be contacted through the Friend Family Association of America (FFAA) at Friendsville, MD or by e-mail through the FFAA web site (www.friendfamilyassociation.org ). The initial cost of printing the book has been donated to the FFAA. Further sales of this book, published by the FFAA, will go to the FFAA (a non-profit organization). All book sales are tax deductible. The author will sign each book in the initial offering.
Black and white spiral bound copies can be purchased for $60 (plus $10 S&H) or a CD at $30 (plus $5 S&H). The CD contains a color copy of the book in a PDF format (requiring Acrobat 7.0).
