Just a quick note on the wife of John Friend (d. abt. 1808), Kerenhappuch. Her maiden name is unknown.
The name Hyatt first appeared as a "possible" maiden name for Kerenhappuch in 1967. It is not a long standing family tradition, but a modern convention. And the pure conjecture was based simply on the fact that she had a biblical name, not that many other families in the area didn't.
Her first name is found recorded in a couple deeds and one bible record, but no maiden name is given in any of these accounts.
Right now, Cox, Biggerstaff, Cresap, etc are just as plausible, since the children in the Jost Hite family are accounted for.
And yes, a couple DAR records now list Hyatt, but the maiden name has not been verified by the DAR (I have reviewed some of the applications)
A couple others comments:

I'm also descended from John Friend and Karrenhappuch... Do you have any thing to connect Karrenhappuch to Joist Hite? I've been trying for years to trace her ancestors, but can't connect her to anyone, for sure. The reference in "Indian Blood" which many have taken as "Gospel" is only based on "Gospel" as far as I can see. The daughters of Job (the fairest in the Land) were named Jemima, Keziah and Karrenhappuch. None of Joist's children had an opening for Karrenhappuch's birthdate and his children and grandchildren are pretty well documented...
Barbara replyed she could not make any connections to Joist Hite.

Jost or Joist Hite was a prominent figure in MD/VA history and crops up in a lot of books. His connection to our Hyatts has not yet been found by Hyatt researchers....
