Cornelius Ward Friend - Ohio Evelyn Olsen in her book wrote, a grandson said Cornelius's land was near Pottsville, a frontier town in Ohio. This is apparently a mistake by the grandson, and few have bothered to check the accuracy of that statement. Well, there is no record of a Pottsville, OH, historical or modern. The few who have bothered to do a little research, said his children were born in Wattsville, OH. Geographically this is about right, but it is debatable that Wattsville was in existence at the time. In 1895, it had a population of 38 people and is now nothing but a PO. But, this PO (it's not a town anymore), is about a 1/2 mile south of the property he owned (E ½ of the NW ¼ of Section 26, Township 13, Range 4). What can be accurately said is that Cornelius's land was in Fox Twp (then and now), and that would be where his children were born. In 1830 Fox Twp was part of Columbiana County, and in 1832 Fox Twp was set off from Columbiana County with the newly formed Carroll County.
