I still have not identified Andrew but others listed in his household have been found.
In this document (below), heirs were the children found living with Andrew in 1850. “At the death of Jacob friend, February 10th, 1802, his estate passed through the Court of Equity several times and finally became the property of the surviving heirs, E.H. Friend and Mrs. Jane James”
E. H. Friend was Edward H. Friend b. abt. 1830 m. Charlotte (Unknown) (he was living with Andrew Friend in 1850). In 1880 is mother-in-law is in his HH, named A. M. Albert. This may mean Charlotte’s father was Unk. ALBERT but since Mrs. Albert is 75 in 1880 there is always the possibility that she married more than once.
Mrs. Jane James was Jane Friend b. abt. 1829. m. William James in 1853. William James is not found in the 1860 so he either died or they divorced. Jane (James) has in her HH in 1860; Sarah 18 (not Jane’s child as there is only 13 yrs. difference in age); Harriet 4 and William 2. In 1870 census, Sarah has left the HH, probably married.
Jacob Friend (named in this document) d. Feb. 10, 1802 was also named in this bio: JACOB FRIEND owner of Elm Hurst farm, which consists of 135 acres, on which, he says, he can raise 40 barrels of corn per acre, was born on the D. Chaney farm in Tilghmanton District, November 14, 1834, and is a son of HENRY and Nancy (Watts) Friend, and a grandson of JACOB and ELIZABETH (PRATHER) FRIEND. According to tradition three Friend brothers emigrated from Switzerland in 1732, and settled near Williamsport. Jacob Friend married Elizabeth Prather and lived on his plantation near Williamsport, in December, 1800. He was a farmer all his life, but learned the trade of millwright when young. He began farming, when he was only twenty years old, on the old Friend homestead, on which the Byron Tannery was afterward built. He afterward removed to Tilghmanton District, where he farmed until his retirement. He died at Funkstown, in May, 1873, and is buried in the Williamsport Cemetery (River View Cemetery ?)... He was a democrat all his life. Mr. Friend married Miss Nancy Watts, a daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Newson) Watts, of Tilghmanton district.
Henry Friend is found in the 1850-1860-1870 MD Washington Co. census with wife Nancy, children: Elizabeth, Jacob and Thomas.
Note: The grandparents in this bio are Jacob and Elizabeth Prather Friend. Their daughter, Rachel m. Jeremiah JACK.
I suspect that Jacob and Elizabeth Prather Friend’s son, Robert Turner Friend who married Charity Worsley/Wosley had a child named Eleanor Charity Friend who married Jeremiah Jack, son of Rachel Friend and Jeremiah Jack. (This is a work in progress)
Jacob Friend who died Feb. 10, 1802 (according to my files) was the son of Charles Friend of Swede’s Delight (Williamsport area). Charles was the brother of Israel Friend of the Harper’s Ferry area; both were sons of Andrew Friend 1659-1740.
In the bio for Jacob Friend (above) it said the family descended from “three Friend brothers emigrated from Switzerland”. I disagree with this part of the bio.
If anyone on the list works the FRIEND and/or JACK lines I would like to compare information. Pat (Friend) Thompson
