Carpenter, Mary Ellen Friend -- Mrs. Mary Carpenter, of Widowsville, one of the pioneer women of Ashland county, died Sunday, July 25, at the home of her son, Frank Carpenter, in her 95th year. She was the grandmother of Mr. A.C.D. Leidigh of Ashland. The funeral occurred Tuesday, burial in Hayesville cemetery. Five generations in one family is a rare occurrence but in this family it occurs several times. Submitted by Chris. [Ashland Press: 28 July 1909]
Carpenter, Mary Ellen Friend -- 4 Aug 1909. "The death of Mary Friend Carpenter, occurred at the home of her son Frank Carpenter, near the Methodist church at Widowville Sunday July 25th. at 1 p.m. She was aged 95 years, 3 months. 'Grandma Carpenter' as she was usually called, was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, April 25th. 1814. When she was two years old her parents moved to Vermillion township, Ashland county, Ohio, where she spent all the remainder of her life. In 1832, she was married to Robert Carpenter, and together they traveled the road of life for 57 years, he being called to his reward in 1889. To them were born twelve children, two dying in infancy and ten still living. This is one of the rare instances when a mother lives to see some of her children past seventy-five years of age. One of the very few where six generations could be seen side by side. The near relatives who will miss her are ten children, 42 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.... Had it not been for an accident in which her ankle was broken she might have lived for some time yet. Burial in Hayesville cemetery. Submitted by Chris. [Ashland Press: 28 July 1909]

Annette, while doing some on-line research I found this post. I don't know if the emails are still good but you might want to try to find this person or maybe it will give you another clue at least:
Looking for information on David Cripps b.1827 to George Dan BUNGETT and Saloma, m. Mary FRIEND in Hocking Co, OH. I am not sure why of the different surnames but that is the information that I have. If anyone should have family lines on the CRIPPS, I would like to make contact with them. Mary FRIEND was the daughter of George FRIEND and Sarah HARDIN. Would like to find more information on the HARDIN line as well. Thank you for any information. Brenda in IL
b4art@localline.com Looking for information on George Friend m. Sarah Hardin 1818 in Fairfield Co., OH. Children listed are Isaac 1827, Mary 1825, Sarah 1829, Sampson 1834, Elizabeth 1835 or 37, Maria 1839, Alfred 1831, John 1842. Some of the children were married in or became residents of Hocking Co. b4art2u@hotmail.com
Looking for connections to family surnames of CRIPPS, FRIEND, BURGET or BUNGET, GREUBAUGH. I have David CRIPPS b.1827, (parents listed as George Don BUNGET or BURGET m. Soloma/Saloma) married Nov. 3, 1850 in HOCKING COUNTY, OH to Mary FRIEND b.1826, (parents listed as George FRIEND m. Grouelwa). I have to wonder if Grouelwa was not misread, mistaken, or mistyped for GREUBAUGH. There was a George FRIEND m. Barbara GREUBAUGH in 1805 but, have no more information on them. Anyone with any information or connections to these long gone but, not forgotten souls please contact me. Have much information to share. Thank you. Brenda St.Peter in IL
