Mrs. Friend Dies at 89 A resident of the Centralia area for 58 years, Mrs. Augusta Friend died early Thursday in the Centralia nursing home. She was 89 years of age. Mrs. Friend, born Nov 18, 1875, in Dunlarp, Sweden, was a member of the First Christian Church of Centralia. She and her husband, Charles W. Friend, were one of the first families at Tono, where he was a mine foreman for the Washington Union Coal Co., a part of the Union Pacific Railroad at the time. Mr. Friend succumbed in 1942. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Phoebe Martina, Bucoda; three sons, Wilbert Friend, Olympia, and C. J. and C. Byrd Friend, Centralia; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Newell-Hoerling's Centralia, with the Rev. Harvey C. Hartling to officiate. Interment will follow at Mountain View.
